To say that Tattoo is shocked that his best friend Christian showed up knocking on his door at 3am is an understatement. The only time Christian showed up at his apartment were for emergencies (which is almost never) or his housewarming party. Other than that the omega claimed that his apartment was a hooligan’s den and he would never step foot in it unless someone forced him.
He was going to rain hell on the person interrupting his sleep but when Christian showed up, small, and tired-looking, all the anger went away and was washed over by worry. And Tattoo never worries about the little ball of fire, because he knew his omega friend was much capable of caring for himself.
Christian is clad in a large black hoodie, his raven hair ruffled, his posture slightly hunched over with defeat, and the tip of his nose and his eyes are rimmed with a flushed red. He looks absolutely tired.
“Hey,” Tattoo whispers as if anything louder would scare his friend. He is almost afraid of the situation, considering he’s never really seen Christian like this.
Christian gives him a weak smile, “Is it okay if I come in?”
Tattoo swallows back the teasing joke he was going to throw out, mentioning that Christian never comes to his place so why now. But the alpha smiles back trying to bring some comfort, “Well, you’re the only person to come knocking on my door at 3am not caring that I’m asleep, so why the fuck not.” He opens the door wider to make room for the latter to enter.
The omega snorts and makes his way into the apartment. He toes off his shoes and makes his way through the small hall. He enters the living and directly hops onto the worn out couch. Tattoo follows him wondering if Christian needed to talk or just wanted someone’s presence, because as much as his friend denies it, he sometimes just wants someone to hug him. Even after years of being friends with him, Tattoo never knew how to deal with this type of Christian. The one that seems too tired, too sad, too defeated, too human.
Tattoo notices the omega staring off at the blank TV screen and quickly walks into the kitchen to quickly whip up a chocolate marshmallow sandwich. It’s Christian’s favorite snack in the world, because it was the first thing Tattoo offered him in first grade after they fought physically over a stuffed lion. He remembers handing the gooey chocolatey mess smashed between two slices of bread, and grinning at the smaller male when Christian took it immediately. The omega told him it reminded him of the easier times, a taste of the innocence they used to have before being thrown into a fiery hell called adulthood.
When he comes back from the kitchen after toasting up the sandwich, he let’s out a short laugh when Christian immediately turns to him after smelling the delicious food coming his way. Tattoo almost pats himself on the back when he sees some sort of happiness twinkling in his friend’s eyes. After they are both settled snacking on their food, there is a comfortable silence blanketing the air. It is kind of serene with the moon shining through his glass sliding door and reflecting off the wooden floor boards. But as much as he doesn’t want to ruin the atmosphere, he knows Christian needed to talk or he’ll never tell anyone, and Tattoo knows how that’s going to end up.
“You mind telling me what you’re doing walking around at 3am, young man?” Tattoo starts softly.
Christian scoffs, settling back onto the couch and pulling his legs up, “I was off to go kill someone and after dragging their body near your apartment I decided to visit.”
Tattoo snorts, “I try to show some sort of sentiment, but okay.”
The omega lightly punches him, and then continues to space out a bit. Tattoo sighs, “Tell me what’s wrong.”
Christian let’s his head fall back onto the couch cushion, “there’s nothing wrong.”
“You’re lying,” the alpha retorts, squishing the smaller male against the couch.
The smaller male keeps quiet, fiddling with the zipper on the hoodie. He sighs closing his eyes. “Yeah I am,“ he whispers quietly.
Tattoo turns to look at him and almost whines, “then tell me-”
“I’m pregnant,” he cuts in. He makes eye contact with Tattoo, searching for some sort of reaction, “with Ian’s baby.”
Tattoo furrows his eyebrows, “what?”
Ian was Tattoo’s older brother, the CEO of a huge company that all three siblings were to inherit, but Tattoo never wanted a part of. He knew that Christian and Ian were messing around for a year when the omega was in his second year of college and they’ve made an agreement after hooking up at a party. And it sucks to watch from the sidelines, seeing his friend pine for someone who doesn’t spare a glance at him. They both hide from the harsh reality and seek comfort from each other in forms of unattached sex. Tattoo wants to wake them both up, but it’s not his place and more than anything he doesn’t want to speak to Ian. He absolutely despises the other. Ian was perfect according to their father, successful, smart, and ruthless, and he hates his brother for following in their dad’s corrupted foot steps.
Tattoo knew his brother playing with fire when he hooked up with Christian but this was something that didn’t even bother to cross his mind.
Christian sighs, “Before you say anything, I know I messed up already and I’m keeping the baby.”
Tattoo closes his gaping mouth. “When did you find out?” he starts slowly.
The omega furrows his brows trying to recollect the memories of the discovery, “A week ago, right after Ian said I smelled different.”
“Does Ian know?” Tattoo whispers.
The omega’s expression almost seemed scared, or disappointed. “No I haven’t- I don’t think I’ll tell him.”
Tattoo’s furrow his brows, confused to why. “Why not. Don’t you think he deserves to know that you’re-“
Christian cuts in once again, but this time with lingered sadness, “he doesn’t-” he pauses, “he doesn’t like me like that. Why would I tell him something that could ruin his life. I’m not even his mate, or in a romantic relationship with him.”
“Well, bullshit. I know you guys have been fucking around, with the no strings attached shit, and as much as an asshole Ian is, he won’t turn away from you now that you’re pregnant,” yhe alpha explains.
Christian looks at him with irritation. “Clearly you don’t understand, I couldn’t give a shit if he suddenly cared about me, but I don’t want to be dragged into whatever family shit you guys are going through.”
The omega continues, “You do know that your parents are expecting an heir from Ian right? He’s already going to get engaged and if he finds out I’m pregnant that’s going to ruin everything.” Christians starts breathing heavily. Tattoo knows he starting to lose his composure.
“If he tells your parents that he got a low-life omega pregnant, what’s going to happen to him, hm? He has a whole fucking company, he’s not going to give it up for some broke ass omega who’s pregnant with his child.” He laughs bitterly at the depreciative speech.
Tattoo stares at Christian, who looks like he hates the world, and swallows his words. He doesn’t know what to say. Instead he pulls Christian into a tight hug and let’s the omega bury his face to his neck.
“It’s okay,” he whispers, “it’ll be okay.” That’s all he has to offer.
Christian just hugs him tighter as if it was going to keep him from falling apart.
For the past few weeks, Christian would come to his apartment just to seek comfort from his friend. As much as Tattoo wants to help, he doesn’t understand the turmoil his friend is going through.
“I have an appointment later this week,” Christian mutters, half asleep from the lazing they have been doing on the couch. The omega looks so comfortable tucked in the corner of the couch and snuggled up in the large duvet Tattoo pulled off his bed.
The alpha wraps his arms around the omega shoulder, “Why didn’t you get one when you knew you were pregnant?”
The omega huffs, “because you idiot, when you’re scared of reality you don’t want something to prove to you that it actually happened.”
Tattoo knows it’s a joke but it he couldn’t help but to hold him a bit tighter.
“So, you wanna guess how many weeks you are?” he suggested. Tattoo never took notice, because the older was always wearing baggy clothes. Mostly the black hoodie that he’s been adorning the day he told Tattoo the news.
Christian opens his eyes, something fond swirling in the chocolate orbs. He places his small palm on his navel under the blanket. “I don’t know, the bump wasn’t noticeable at first, but now you can actually feel it.” There was movement under the blanket. In the softest voice Christian says,“I think he’s around 9 weeks?”
Tattoo perks up after hearing the pronoun. “He? You think it’s a boy?”
The omega snorts and sinks under the sheets, “Call me cheesy or whatever but I have a gut feeling it’s a boy.”
The alpha looks at his friend, “Can I see it?”
Christian stares down at him with hesitation, “I mean… I haven’t really shown anyone.”
Tattoo pouts, “Damn I can’t even get to see my nephew.”
“Your nephew is a fucking bean,” the omega retorts.
Christian sighs when Tattoo gives him huge puppy eyes, “Fine.” He proceeds to unzip the hoodie and kicks his legs so his friend could get off. He pulls down the duvet and pushes away his jacket. Tattoo could see the way his friend’s eyes were darting, and the slight fear in his scent. Christian was nervous.
Tattoo places himself on top of the omega’s legs and looks up at Christian with anticipation, “any time now.”
Christian flicks his forehead and the proceeds to lift up the black t-shirt he was wearing. Tattoo eyes darts to the smooth expanse of his friend’s navel, mesmerized by the fact that there is a life growing in there.
Christian was right, the bump is not too noticeable, but it’s there. It dawns on Tattoo that his friend since 1st grade was going to have a baby. His brother’s baby to be exact, and though it isn’t born yet, it was already causing so much trouble. But at the same time, he knew it was going to be so loved, whether if it’s Christian by himself or with his brother in the picture.
“Stop staring you weirdo. Are you going to touch it or not?” Christian sneers, feeling fidgety from the way the alpha was staring at his bump. He’s feeling slightly self-conscious.
Tattoo lifts up his hand, “Can I?”
The omega snorts and ruffles the latter’s hair, “I already said you could.”
The alpha places his large palm on Christian’s lower stomach, fascinated by the fact that his hand covered most of the omega’s navel. Christian slightly flinches at how cold his friend’s hands are but then relaxes, sinking further into the couch, almost falling asleep at the soothing sensation.
Tattoo could cover the whole bump with the palm of his hands. He runs his fingertips over the small curve and realizes how real the situation is. For the past few weeks he was sure they were lucid dreaming, but the realness of it hits him like a freight train.
Before he could stop himself, he spurts out, “If Ian can’t take care of you, I will.”
Christian scoffs and pushes away his hands, “what’s up with you Jeons thinking that I’m incapable of taking care of myself.”
Tattoo sits up, shifting on the couch so he could make eye contact with his friend.
“Who’s going to pay for the appointments if you’re not going to let Ian know about the baby?” Tattoo starts.
The omega rolls his eyes, “Me of course, I already have 3 jobs. I can afford it.”
Tattoo frowns, “But you can’t be working that many shifts once you’re heavy. You aren’t thinking this through.”
Christian closes his eyes to avoid the looks his friend is giving him, “Yeah but I also don’t want to take money from you, this isn’t your problem.”
Tattoo knows what this is about, “Why don’t you just tell Ian?“
The latter furrows his brows, “I already told you.”
“That’s not all, am I right. There’s more to it,” he presses.
Christian inhales before answering, “There’s nothing more to it. He’s unreachable, I’m not letting him know for the sake of his damn reputation.”
“You like him, don’t you? Ever since high school, and now you’re afraid he’ll reject you and the baby,” Tattoo blurts, slightly irritated that his friend can’t trust him enough to tell him the truth.
The taller male can see the way his friend clenches his jaw. Christian sits up and stares dead straight into his eyes, “My feelings have nothing to do with this situation.”
He is lying, and Tattoo knows that Christian’s feelings have a lot to do with the situation.
“I don’t want your nasty fucking family to come after my kid. I know the reason you ran from your family, they’re fucking spiteful and terrible. If they knew about the baby, I wouldn’t even want to think about what they would do to Ian. Even worse what they would do to the baby.”
Tattoo knows Christian is right, but his heart clenches terribly because his friend let himself be wound up in something bad. He remembers Ian’s first girlfriend, how their parents tore her reputation up when they found out her status was merely middle class. It wasn’t enough for them, and so they had to go on and threaten her. He doesn’t remember what happened to the girl, he just remembered Ian locking himself up in his room for days and walking out days later with the same stoic expression.
“I can’t let Ian know,” Christian mutters weakly. Tattoo doesn’t know if he’s referring to his feelings or the baby.
The alpha scoots closer, “He’s going to find out whether you like it or not.”
The omega inhales, “I know.”
Tattoo sighs and looks at the way Christian’s forehead is creased from stress. He puts a thumb between his eyebrows and rubs out the tension, “Stop stressing too much, it’s not good for the baby.”
Christian looks up and silently lays his head in the crook of his friend’s neck, “Thank you.”
Tattoo wraps his arms around the smaller frame and inhales his friend’s scent. He smiles at the familiar scent of floral jasmine and deep, warm amber but the more he inhales, he picks up another scent, a deep woody and rainy tone.
He realizes it was coming from the hoodie Christian keeps wearing, it is a familiar scent, something he remembers from long ago. It is Ian’s scent. It is faint but it’s still lingering on the fabric. Tattoo hugs tighter when he notices that Christian was probably seeking comfort from the latter, but he couldn’t. All Tattoo has been doing lately is holding his friend together, it was really all he could do.
“I won’t let you go through this alone,” Tattoo whispers.
And all he got back was the sensation of tears seeping into his T-shirt.
